Research project ICEBIO: Start of the second project phase

The search for PhD students for the ICEBIO research project has now been successfully completed. The second phase of the project, which is now starting, will focus on training the PhD students for upcoming sampling and laboratory experiments.

ICEBIO is a PhD network that will train the next generation of experts in glacier microbiology and biogeochemistry. ICEBIO will provide a database of the functional diversity and potential of the glacier biome, which will not only greatly improve our understanding of a threatened biome, but also demonstrate the potential for exploiting economic and ecological services.

Dr. Brill + Partner GmbH will, among other things, provide a risk assessment regarding pathogenic organisms from the glacier biome, including the inclusion of bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

The ICEBIO Doctoral Network is supported by a grant from the European Commission’s MSCA Doctoral Network program under project number 101072761

Dr. Brill optimized high-speed services for efficacy testing of antimicrobial products (EN 14885, ISO 21702, ISO 22196, ISO 20743, ISO 18184)

Dr. Brill has built up capacities for efficacy testing of antimicrobial products such as disinfectants, antiseptics, antiviral and antimicrobial surfaces etc.

We can offer the quickest turnaround times of 4 weeks for most test organisms and due to technical reasons 6 weeks for e.g. mycobacteria and SV40. We ensure a 48 h return service in case requests from eCAs are coming in and need to be addressed.

In case you need a guaranteed 3 week-service (or 6 weeks for slower replicating organisms/viruses) we add a 25 % fee onto the normal price but then you get the guarantee and we are running for you.

Phase 3-test developed with University Medical Center Hamburg UKE

Dr. Brill + Partner developed in a research project financed by the Hamburg health authorities and in cooperation with the Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf a phase 3 test model for surface disinfection procedures. The model includes clinical isolated organisms as well as practice-like surfaces from the hospital in the phase 3 step 1-test as well as the opportunity to perform field studies in the UKE. In addition, the application of the product was developed further meeting practical conditions.

The data will be presented on the DGKH-event on May 12 and 13 in Essen. The paper is in preparation but tests can be order with us as of now. In case you are interested please feel free to contact us.

10 % discount for validation of reprocessing of medical devices under GLP-conditions

The validation of reprocessing procedures for reusable medical devices according to ISO 17664-1 and -2 under GLP for the US-market is an important hot topic and key for registration of medical devices with FDA. Of course we can use the recently published frame standard ANSI/AAMI ST98:2022 as a basis but also the German guidelines, such as ISO 15883-series.

We are ready to market in our bactericidal laboratory as of July 1st 2023 to offer these services under GLP and subsequently FDA compliant. The 10 % discount will be granted for all quotations accepted from now on until the end of 2023.

Dr. Brill at 33rd ECCMID

Dr. Brill + Partner GmbH Institute for Hygiene and Microbiology. will be present at the 33rd ECCMID from the 15th-18th April 2023 in Copenhagen.
Our team will have a poster about the project: "BioRes Test: A standardized test to determine the development of resistance in microorganisms against biocides".

Here is a short summary:
Surface disinfectants and antimicrobial surfaces are important for hygiene and the protection of materials. However, bacteria can develop resistance to disinfectants and material-protection agents, increasing the risk of cross-resistance to antibiotics.
Disinfectants and antimicrobial material coatings are approved within the framework of the EU biocide regulation but there is currently a lack of standardized test methods that would provide industrial applicants and the assessing authorities with a framework for assessment.
The aim of this project is to develop a standardized test method to determine the potential for the development of resistance and cross-resistance when using surface disinfectants and antimicrobial surfaces. The focus is on the development of resistance through de novo mutations and the test procedures are developed on the basis of procedures previously published in scientific journals.

We are looking forward to exciting conversations!
